Why do I feel invisible in a room full of people?

Let’s talk a bit about emotional invisibility at work.

Most adults go entire days without feeling deeply seen. I know I do. Do you?

Why is that?

Why have our workplaces gotten so good at rewarding people for being productive, hustling, grinding, back to back meetings are a badge of honor, and skipping lunch because “a working lunch is so en vogue” and it’s cooler to stare at a screen than it is to look up and talk to a coworker or the person next to you bagging bell peppers at the market. Was that a run on sentence? Probably, because my central nervous system is always on fire and RUSHING, yet no one really sees my hustle (let alone cares) or let alone cares about my well-being. Dang…yeah, I’m brutal.

What about the complaining culture we are in? You know, where you just sit around and complain about everything, everyone, your hair being ugly, how you can’t lose the last 5 lbs and how you don’t have time for anything.

Come on now. I’m a real person writing this, not a robot. There’s my “this is not written by AI disclaimer.” I say it because I’m real. I’m real and I have REALly lived this truth.

People are going through the motions of life but in doing so are starving for love. Starving to be seen. Starving to be acknowledged, praised, celebrated and encouraged!

If you felt any of this deep in your bones, I would love to hear why? What resonated? Have you felt this way recently?

What do you think our culture needs more of the help with this crisis of emotional invisibility?
