What is my purpose?

As Simon Sinek likes to say — What is my WHY? Why do you do what you do? What is your deep seated purpose, cause or belief?

For some of us that might feel really heavy or daunting. My deep seated purpose, cause or belief? Yikes. That’s major!
It is major because it matters. We all know what we do.
What is usually the first thing someone asks you when they meet you? … “What do you do?!”
Here, I’ll go first. I’m a business owner, entrepreneur, mother, sister, daughter, friend, Christian, volunteer, etc. etc…
That’s the first question typically because it’s safe. We know what we do because there is clear language for it. We can use our neocortex to easily access the language and words to tell people about our profession, current status, etc.
What if the first question was “What is your purpose? Why do you get out of bed every day?”
Imagine it…you’re at a restaurant gathering and someone hits you with that question. I don’t know about you, but I would probably tense up! “Uhhh…Wow, ummm, that’s a good question!”
It isn’t a good question. It’s a great question. It’s probably one of THE MOST important questions we can ask and answer.
We are not our labels. We are not our WHATs. Yes, we do those things (and most of us live those roles out with much pride and joy), but WHO we are is much deeper.
We need to use our limbic brains and reach deeper than superficial labels to understand our WHY.
If you have been wondering WHY it is you do what you do? WHY you feel energized and like the best version of yourself sometimes, but completely dead inside other times…I would love to talk with you.
As a certified WHY Discovery Coach, I help people find their WHY.
Yesterday, I had the honor of helping another beautiful individual find their WHY.
The process is remarkable and the clarity that comes after discovering your WHY is life-changing.
Let’s stop living our life in the WHATs. We can embrace them and be consistent about them, but let’s work to go a bit deeper.
If you’re curious and hungry to discover your WHY, please reach out.
Joyfully,
JT
